Ms. Becker has been a well known name as a fierce criminal defense attorney since 2003, coming to Colorado via Temple University Beasley School of Law, in Philadelphia, PA. From 2003-2009 she worked in the Office of the Colorado State Public Defender, working her way up in the ranks to finish her public defender career as the Office Head in the Trinidad Regional Office.
Entering into private practice in 2009, she has kept herself busy in the areas of Criminal Defense, Guardianship and Post-Conviction Relief cases. Since 2009 Ms. Becker has represented hundreds of clients with some of their most complicated issues. As of 2017, Ms. Becker has been specializing in the representation of youth entrenched in the system, particularly those youth who the State is attempting to charge and try in the adult criminal system. She has successfully won several hearings, making sure her clients remain in the juvenile system where they belong.
Ms. Becker has also been qualified as an expert in the Youthful Offender System (YOS), the system that youth enter when they have been tried as adults, or where young adult offenders may be placed. She has worked on several revocation hearings and successfully maintained her clients within the YOS system after the attempt to revoke their sentences.
It has always been Ms. Becker’s philosophy in her practice of law that each person deserves zealous and caring representation. Having knowledgeable clients who are a part of the process is of utmost importance to her. She works closely with her staff and clients to ensure that the clients’ voices are heard. In cases involving children, it is Ms. Becker’s goal that the best interests of every child be served. She has settled many cases, but also is not afraid to appear before the Court when settlement is not in favor of her clients, or not serving the best interests of the children, and zealously represents her clients through the process. Ms. Becker believes that you must stand up for your clients when the entire system may be against them.
In her criminal defense practice, the majority of Ms. Becker’s practice is through Alternate Defense Counsel as court-appointed counsel. She has tried hundreds of cases, with a high rate of success, but also will not force any client into taking a plea. Because a client’s liberties are at stake, it is vital that clients and Ms. Becker work through their cases, and know all of the consequences for convictions, but that the ultimate decision for the case is up to the client. She has defended those faced with charges varying from DUI, traffic offenses, misdemeanors, all level felonies, including drug offenses, sexual assaults, and homicides. Ms. Becker has tried numerous cases obtaining many acquittals for a number of clients. Ms. Becker believes that each person’s constitutional rights are fundamental and deserve every protection afforded to them. There is no criminal case that Ms. Becker won’t defend, as every person deserves the very best representation.
Ms. Becker has practiced in many jurisdictions throughout Colorado, including Jefferson, Denver, Arapahoe, El Paso, Pueblo, Alamosa, Otero, Bent, and Las Animas counties. She is well respected by her colleagues in each of these jurisdictions and has had a high rate of success, including recently being recognized as an expert in the area of Youthful Offender System (YOS).
